Veedol Milestones

Founded in 1913, the Veedol brand has achieved many milestones over the past century.

1913

The Veedol brand created by an American Company – Tide Water Associated Oil.

1914

Veedol is the first engine oil chosen by Henry Ford for the world’s first mass produced car, the Model T-Ford.

1925

Veedol Germany was founded.

1928

The chosen engine lubricant for the first airship, the Graf Zeppelin, to fly around the world.

1930

1930

Getty Oil acquires an interest in Tide Water Associated Oil Company.

1931

The engine lubricant for the first non-stop flight across the Pacific Ocean in the “Miss Veedol” plane.

1949

Veedol develops the first HD (Heavy Duty) engine oil for the German market.

1950

Construction of Veedol Delaware refinery producing 14,000 barrels per day in Delaware City USA, 50,000 in Mina Saud and 40,000 in Gaeta Italy.

1951

Getty Oil gains control of Tide Water and the Veedol brand.

1954

French Grand Prix in Reims-Guaxon showing Veedol track side branding.

1961

Veedol introduces their first semi-synthetic oil.

1973

The Burmah Oil Company acquires the rights to market the Veedol brand in the Middle East.

1975

Fritz B. Busch breaks the flying kilometre and flying mile records for diesel engine cars in his Veedol sponsored, Mercedes-Benz powered Diesel Star, achieving almost 250 km/h.

1978

A Mercedes-Benz C111-III wins nine world records in the diesel engine category, using Veedol motor oil and achieves a record speed over 325 kph.

1979

Veedol synthetic oils are used for the flight of the Space Shuttle, Columbia, USA.

1986

Burmah Castrol completes the purchase of the worldwide rights for Veedol lubricants.

1996

Veedol introduces their first SJ specification motor oil, Veedol Elite.

1999

Veedol launches a European based specialist academy, providing intensive employee and customer training.

2011

Tide Water Oil Co. (India) Ltd. acquires 100% shares of Veedol International Limited (VIL) from BP thereby obtaining the global rights to a wide portfolio of registered trademarks for the master brand Veedol and its associated product sub-brands and iconic logos

2012

Veedol International DMCC commences operations in the Middle East.

2013

Veedol Deutschland GmbH

2016

Tide Water Oil acquires Granville Oil & Chemicals, U.K.

2021

Tide Water Oil tied up with Blumenthal Brands Integrated (BBI) USA to launch their iconic car care brands – Gunk and Liquid Wrench in India
